Common Wealth Games
Commonwealth Games is a multi- sporting international
event in which athletes from Commonwealth countries strive
hard to win the medals for their respective countries.
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada holds the special significance
in the history of Commonwealth games. It was the place
where the first Commonwealth Games event was organized
in 1930. Since then, the games have been organized after
every four years and nearly 5000 elite athletes take part
in this grand event.
New Delhi, the capital city of India will organize
the upcoming Commonwealth games of 2010. This will be
the first instance when Commonwealth games will be hosted
in the India and the second time in Asian Continent.
The
Games would be held between 3 to 14 October 2010 (including
the opening and closing ceremony). For easy at the same
time proficient management of this important sports
event, a village named Games Village is
being constructed. It is estimated that the village
can accommodate as many as 8,500 athletes and their
supporting staff during the games.
This phenomenal sporting event would include the sports
competition of Archery, Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton,
Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball,
Rugby 7s, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting
and Wrestling.
The hosting rights for Common wealth Games was won
by Delhi in November 2003 by overcoming Hamilton (Canadian
City) at the CGF General Assembly held in Montego Bay.
The previous edition of this magnificent sporting event
was organized at Melbourne, Australia in 2006.
With eyes on the New Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010, city
is all set to welcome the extravaganza with its high-end
preparations such as modern transit systems, global standard
accommodation and state-of-the-art tourist facilities.
